What do you need before activating?

License key from your purchase confirmation email

Find Your License Key

Check your email for the purchase confirmation. Subject line: "Your Git AutoReview [Plan] License Key". The key looks like GAR-DEV-A1B2C3D4-E5F6G7H8.

Tip: No email after 5 minutes? Check your spam folder.

Open Extension Settings

Press Cmd+Shift+P (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux), type "Git AutoReview: Open Settings", and press Enter. Go to the General tab.

Paste & Activate

Find the License Key field, paste your key, and click Activate. You'll see a confirmation message with your plan name and updated limits.

How do you connect your AI provider?

Your license key unlocks higher review limits — but AI reviews need a provider connection. Pick one of three options:

API Key

Get a key from any AI provider and paste it in Settings → Models. Pay-per-use — you control your costs.

Anthropic Console — Claude models
Google AI Studio — Gemini models
OpenAI Platform — GPT models

Claude Code

No API Key

Have a Claude Code subscription (Pro $100/mo or Max $200/mo)? Enable "Claude CLI" in Settings → Models.

Agent mode — reads your project files for deeper analysis. Takes 2-5 min per review.

GitHub Copilot

No API KeyExperimental

Have a GitHub Copilot subscription? Install npm i -g @github/copilot and enable "Copilot CLI" in Settings → Models.

Uses your existing GitHub plan. API may change between updates.

What if activation fails?

I didn't receive the license email

Check your spam/junk folder. If still missing, email support@gitautoreview.com with your Whop order email.

"Invalid license key" error

Make sure you copied the entire key including the GAR- prefix. Keys are case-sensitive. Try copying it again without extra spaces.

"License already in use" error

Each license is bound to one VS Code installation. Email support@gitautoreview.com to reset your license binding.

I activated my license but still see "API key not configured"

Your license key unlocks review limits (e.g. 100/day for Developer). To run reviews, you also need an AI provider — either add an API key in Settings → Models, or use a Claude Code / GitHub Copilot subscription (no key needed). See the "Connect Your AI Provider" section above.

How do I upgrade my plan?

Visit whop.com/gitautoreview to upgrade. Your new license key will be emailed to you. Activate it the same way — the old key is automatically replaced.

Can I transfer my license to another machine?

Yes. Deactivate on the old machine (Settings → General → Deactivate), then activate on the new one with the same key.
